WHY PEDIGREECHARTMAKER

Everything a family health chart needs

Local-first and private

Export in five formats

Sharp SVG vectors, high-res PNG, print-ready PDF pages, re-editable JSON projects, and one-click printing.

Standard pedigree symbols

Affected, carrier, proband, deceased, consanguineous, twins, adoption, stillbirth, pregnancy — all included.

Templates for inheritance

Start from dominant, recessive, X-linked, mitochondrial, or Y-linked pedigrees — then edit freely.

HOW IT WORKS

From blank page to printed chart in three steps

  1. Add people

Pick a template or start blank, then add parents, partners, and children with one click — or use Quick Build and answer plain-language questions.

  2. Mark health details

Shade people as affected by any trait, mark carriers, deceased, probands, twins, adoptions, and more from the inspector panel.

  3. Export and share

Auto-layout the chart, then export print-ready SVG, PNG, or PDF — or save the project file to finish later.

> The mother’s brother is also affected.

WHO IT’S FOR

Built for classrooms, clinics, and families

Genetics classrooms

Students practice autosomal dominant and recessive, X-linked, and mitochondrial patterns on real notation with instant visual feedback.

Clinics and counselors

Draw a family health history during a consultation, print it for the chart, and keep sensitive data on the patient’s own device.

Family historians

Record several generations of relatives, health conditions, and relationships in a clean, printable tree you can revisit anytime.

STANDARD NOTATION

Symbols your readers already know

PedigreeChartMaker follows the human pedigree notation used in genetics education and medical records — squares and circles, shaded for affected, dots for carriers, bars for twins, and dotted lines for adoptions. No symbol set to configure, no guessing for readers.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is PedigreeChartMaker really free?

Yes. The maker, all templates, every export format, and Quick Build are free with no account and no trial. There are no file or person limits.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Your project is saved in your browser’s local storage. You can export it as a .pedigree.json file to back it up or open it on another device.

Where is my data stored?

On your device only. Nothing is uploaded to our servers — there is no server involved in editing. The contact form is the only thing that sends data, and only if you choose to use it.

Can I make a pedigree with more than three generations?

Yes. Add as many generations as you need — parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and beyond. Auto layout re-flows the whole chart in one click.

Which inheritance patterns do the templates cover?

Autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, X-linked recessive and dominant, mitochondrial, and Y-linked — plus relationship templates for twins, adoption, and a blank canvas.

What file formats can I export?

SVG for vectors and editing, PNG for sharing at any scale, PDF for print, and .pedigree.json to continue editing later. You can also print directly from the browser.

Is the notation standards-compliant?

The symbols follow the conventional human pedigree notation taught in genetics courses and used in clinical records: squares for males, circles for females, shading for affected individuals, dots for carriers, bars for twins, and dashed lines for adoptions.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. On small screens the editor switches to a bottom-bar and sheet layout designed for touch, and exports still produce full-size, print-ready files.
